The Role

The purpose of this placement is to gain insight into the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) department of an oil and gas company and provide support.  They will work with the ESG analyst to understand the requirements for reporting disclosures and perform a piece of work on Nature Related Climate Disclosures.

The placement will get involved with our ESG committees, attending meetings and taking on actions to liaise with external groups and participate in activities.  They will also have the opportunity to suggest activities or potential fund-raising events to the chairs via pitching sessions.  They will write up an event or prepare a poster to raise awareness of committee activities.

They will perform an in-depth review of an energy transition technology and demonstrate how it could fit Serica’s business.  There will also be ad hoc work to do to support the team and an opportunity to talk to engineering, finance, HSE and business departments to understand the overall working of the business.

There is also the opportunity to streamline a data process to replace a spreadsheet-based workflow, with a Power BI dashboard that can reduce manual inputs, room for error and generate reports. The exact workflow will be decided nearer the time.

Scopes of work

This section highlights the scopes of work for the placement to complete during their time with Serica. Please provide a description of the work that the placement will be tasked with, who the point/s of contact are for each set of tasks and the estimated duration of each piece of work.

  1. Taskforce for Nature-Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD)  - 10 days
    1. The TFND is an emerging sustainability reporting framework aimed to help companies communicate the risks and opportunities their business may face as a result of their dependencies on various natural resources.
    2. The aim of this work is to work with the ESG Analyst and Environmental Compliance Team and apply the TNFD’s LEAP framework to conduct an initial assessment of the risks and opportunities associated with Serica’s current operations and produce recommendations on what could be implemented to mitigate risks and maximise the opportunities identified.|
  2. Support with ESG Committee Activity – ongoing 10 days (partial days)
    1. Support Serica’s ESG Analyst with the coordination of activities organized through Serica’s ESG Committees.
  3. Data dashboards and automation – 5 days
    1. Review spreadsheets where data is collected and work on improving the process via building a dashboard and linking to the data-sources or making data easier to enter and display
  4. Alternative technology review – 5 days
    1. Identifying, understanding and implementing/supporting new and emerging technology is key to unlocking the energy transition.
    2. This piece of work will concentrate on working with the ESG Team to identify suitable technology and undertake a detailed review of its potential and economic viability. This will involve compiling a report and presentation, which will be presented to the team at the end of the placement.
  5. ESG Scoring Data Review and Update – 3 days
    1. Work with the ESG Analyst to review ESG information collected by ESG Scoring Agencies on Serica
    2. Once reviewed, update any incorrect information accordingly.

Essential Qualifications

Working towards a qualification in science, environmental or engineering related subjects or relevant experience
