The Role - Chemical Engineer Summer Placement
This placement is suitable for a Chemical Engineering student entering their final year. The placement will provide an opportunity to work with Serica Energy’s Process and Process Safety Engineers in rationalising the Bruce platforms safety critical flow limiting devices.The scope will build on the individuals understanding of how an oil and gas production platform operates and the types of safety devices required to ensure safe operation. Key skills which will be developed are:
- Interpersonal skills collaborating with Serica engineers to achieve a desired outcome
- Ability to interpret Piping and Instrument Diagrams
- Understanding of safety critical flow limiting devices
- Reading and interpreting Layer of Protection Analysis documentation
- Reading and interpreting HAZOP documentation
- Understanding of Performance Standards, FTAs, IVB Auditing
- Data tabulating
- Technical Note writing
- Presenting results and findings to a group
Scopes of work
Following on from a Performance Standard update, Serica requires to create a register of safety critical NRVs and RO/FOs and complete testing and inspection on them to provide assurance that the safety critical requirements continue to be met.High-level scope of work:
- Collaborate with the Process and Process Safety Engineers to review the existing rationalisation flow chart for NRVs.
- Repeat the collaboration process for the restriction and flow orifices and develop a flow chart which helps identify safety critical orifices.
- Collate a rationalised list of NRVs/ROs/FOs using the agreed flow charts.
