Operations in Indonesia
Overview
Serica’s operations in South East Asia began in 2002 with interests in North Sumatra, Indonesia. In the intervening years it built up a portfolio of properties offshore North Sumatra, offshore and onshore East Kalimantan, offshore Java and offshore Vietnam. Between 2004 and 2011 Serica participated in the drilling of ten wells in South East Asia, nine of which were drilled by Serica as operator. This drilling resulted in the discovery of the Kambuna gas field offshore North Sumatra which was subsequently developed by Serica and is now in production.
Three wells drilled by Serica offshore East Kalimantan, namely Dambus-1, Dambus-1ST and Marindan-1, all encountered gas. A fourth well, Togar-1, drilled by Serica offshore North Sumatra also resulted in a small gas discovery.
In 2008 Serica reduced its interest in the Kambuna development from 65% to 50% through the sale of a 15% interest and operatorship of the field. Serica reduced its interest to 25% at the end of 2009 with the sale of a further 25% interest in the field, together with part of its interest in the Kutai block in East Kalimantan and its interest in Vietnam. In October 2011, Serica disposed of all of its remaining exploration interests in Indonesia together with its operating subsidiaries based in Jakarta in order to focus on new opportunities elsewhere. Serica’s sole remaining interest in South East Asia is a 25% participation in the producing Kambuna gas field.
